Winter landscapes

We went to the beach the other day and it actually felt amazing to walk around in the snow while hearing the waves rolling in. We were out there with the intention to take photos for the annual Christmas greetings and the weather couldn't have been better. This was the beginning of a wonderful Christmas holiday, which has included a lot of food, lots of laughs and some — admittedly not that much — outdoor activities. Tomorrow we will be on the road again since we will be travelling to my own parents for more Christmas celebrations.

Longing for the sun

Yet another grey morning. This photo was taken a few weeks ago, and it doesn't feel as if the sun has been visible at all since then. I would argue that it has its ups as well as downs, though. On the minus side I would put the gloominess that comes from far too little light and short days. On the plus side is the fact that it doesn't get cold. It still feels like autumn even though we're already a third into December.

Nevertheless, I do wish for some more sunlight. I need recharging.

Sunrise

Friday morning was beautiful. It is still pretty warm here and there has hardly been any frost at all. It's nice... When I saw the sun coming up I knew there would be photo opportunities and before I even had breakfast, I was on my way to a place nearby where I knew I would be able to watch the sun rise.

It was really quiet. As I was standing there taking photos I only saw one more person, a woman on a bike, smiling as she cycled past me. I love this way of somehow greeting a new day, of focusing on the beauty I see around me, of watching the birds flying or swimming... I reevaluate issues that might have seemed stressful or gather strength to deal with things at hand.

Seasons

It's a beautiful day today and after getting some reading done I'm really looking forward to some time off. When the children finish school today we're driving to T.'s parents, which I'm sure will result in a weekend full of interesting conversation, good food, and perhaps also a lot of photos.

Winter has not yet arrived here. It's still pretty warm even though the leaves remaining on the trees are getting fewer and fewer. It's also getting dark in the late afternoons, so I've begun to look forward to lighting candles and the feeling of Christmas.

Aaah... I'd better get some things done before we leave.

I've finished the work...

...and it feels really good. I had a seminar yesterday when we discussed theories and their application, all of it topics that will be important when I continue to work on this throughout the autumn. I'll finish a few more things, but then it's time for vacation, time to relax and just enjoy lazy days with T. This photo was taken from our living room window last night. It was still amazingly warm, no wind at all, the sun was setting in the west and subsequently colouring the sky pink in the east.

It has been a few extremely busy days, which mostly has to do with work. Yesterday, however, I finally sat down to create a photo book for my father. It's his birthday soon, and I thought I'd give him something to remember last year's holiday by. It was an amazing week, which the entire family spent together with T., his parents and sister and brother-in-law. The only one missing was my brother. Let's hope he can join us another year.

Even though it took quite a bit of time to do the layout, the software was both versatile and easy to use and the price of the finished book wasn't too bad either. Let's hope he'll like it.

Saturday sunset

I love being at sea. I love watching the earth curve on the horizon. I love the sunset on the water. I love the colours, the texture of the water, and the ripples made by the ferry... And the fact that it takes me to the one I love.

Chicken noodles

That's what I had for lunch yesterday while feasting my eyes on these crocuses. It was the first really warm day of the year and I decided to bring some take-away outside and sit in the sun.

So fascinating!

To my great surprise I managed to get hold of world famous photographer Lennart Nilsson's 300-page photo book Livet on sale at a really affordable price, and of course I bought it. His amazing photographs of the "universe within" have — well-deservedly — been awarded prize after prize, and, flipping through the pages, I can only bow my head in awe.

A productive day

I've been working all day and I've actually managed to come up with pretty detailed ideas for two new projects, which I'm very excited about. I intend to put them into writing in the next few days, but it's enough for today now. It's time to relax...

This photo was taken by the ocean on one of those lazy, sunny days. It's a good image and a good feeling.

Sunrise, sunrise...

"Sunrise, sunrise... looks like morning in your eyes" (Norah Jones).

A sunny morning helps remove last night's bad memories. Life goes on. Fortunately.

Signs of spring

Early in the morning. The sun is rising behind the almost black trees. I suddenly see a magpie couple building their nest among the branches. I'm happy to see life continuing and look forward to seeing their offspring later on.

Orchids

I've been fascinated by these flowers for years. My mother has several, my mother-in-law and her mother too, and I myself have two of them (that unfortunately aren't in a very good shape, but that's another thing... they still manage to bloom now and then). Mainly I'm intrigued by their shapes and colours and I tend to take lots and lots of pictures of them.

This one looks like a girl holding out her arms, all ready to give you a hug. I like that.

Beautiful and slightly disturbing

A colleague pointed me to Canadian photographer Edith Maybin's website and I don't seem to be able to stop watching her photos. The ones of her and her daughter are especially evocative, but this single one of the horse above caught my attention as well. Go there! Her work is definitely worth checking out.

Housewarming gift

My partner's sister and her husband brought me a present when they came here a week and a half ago. It was a really beautiful photo book of Denmark from the sky, Himmelskud by Jan Kofod Winther. The publisher tells a wonderful story of how these photos were taken: "Air photograher Jan Kofod Winther has found and kept reality from above with a manual Hasselblad camera. He always flies alone in his small, single engine airplane and takes photos with his right hand through the open window while steering the plane with the left" (my translation from Danish).

Reed

I love the almost tangible silence of this image (which was taken this morning). The reed plumes are moving slowly in the light breeze, the water is exceptionally still, and the rising sun tints everything in pink. Good morning!

A new day

I will focus a lot on work today, but I nevertheless took the time to take a few pictures through the window this morning. The harbour was calm and quiet and the colours of the rising sun were amazing. Ok. Back to work.

More indications of autumn

I drove the children to school and was mesmerized by the view on the way back. This is one of the things I really like about living where I live. The sea is so close, so visible, so tangible...

Weekend walk

Only a small reminder of the amazing weather and beautiful landscape where we were last weekend. Let's hope we get a few more days like these before winter.
