Rings

I have jewellery I wear every day, actually I don't even take them off at night. It's my engagement ring, my doctor's ring, three stacking rings that were given to me by T. when we first met. Besides that I wear earrings (which I change fairly often) and a simple necklace with a ring engraved with the names of my "boys" and a small silver key. Sometimes I enjoy adding bracelets or additional rings such as the ones above to spice up the ensemble.

All the rings are made of silver and the one to the left has a smoke quartz stone. Above it to the right is a pretty cool, three-dimensional filigree ring in 830 silver. Below it you'll find an onyx stone, in which it is possible to "look inside," and the one above it to the right has a labradorite stone in brown and turquoise. Last, but not least, is a turritella agate ring with fossile parts.

Winter blue

As mentioned previously, turquoise has for many years been one of my favourite colours and I managed to get hold of the dress to the left at H&M before it disappeared off the racks. Other turqoise finds are the pair of cotton trousers and the furry shawl from Ellos.

I'd like to match this with various silver and pearly accessories (googled on the Internet).

Red

The Christmas season has almost passed, but I can't help but bringing in a dash of red before it's completely over. The bed linen, the dress and the knitted sweater can all be found at H&M. The necklace can be found at Zazzle, the brooch is private, and Zakes Mda's Heart of Redness can be found at Amazon.

Winter white

H&M have their winter sale at the moment and while browsing the website the following rather wintery outfits caught my attention.

The turtleneck knitted sweater, the corduroy trousers, the woolen cardigan, and the knitted scarf all seem warm and comfortable at the moment. The perfume, White Woods, was found at Lyko. The shoes from Rocket Dog are private as is the bracelet.

Colour mania

Dark turquoise or petrol has been a favourite colour of mine for many years, especially when mixed with black or grey. Sometimes the colour is in fashion, sometimes it is not, but at the moment it does indeed seem to be very much in fashion. Perhaps it is time to bunker up?

The winter coat can be found at Bonprix, the suede slouch bag at Amazon, the Esprit scarf was found at Ellos, the jewellery was found at Etsy, the leather gloves were found on Ebay, the shoes from Tamaris were found at Javari and the knitted dress/sweater is an earlier buy (from H&M perhaps four or five years ago if I remember correctly).

I would love to get hold of leather gloves like the ones above in the right size... I'd better be on the lookout.

Black

Sometimes the only option is black. For some reason I'm drawn towards black nuances at times and it is indeed a common colour in my wardrobe. An entirely black ensemble works well in general, but I often mix black with other colours as well.

Today's spread: A knitted cardigan from Bon'a Parte, a necklace from Urban Clothing, a cashmere scarf from H&M, a Lambretta watch from Josephssons, a shiny handbag from Debenham, a knitted A-line sweater with lace details from Ellos, a pair of leather gloves from H&M and a pair of very comfortable black jeans from Ellos

Matthew Williamson for Lindex

It's always interesting to see the outcome of the various designer collaborations initiated by the the different clothing companies in Sweden. I really liked Lindex's collaboration with Missoni last year, but unfortunately I don't find this year's collaboration with Matthew Williamson as inspiring. Nevertheless, I do think the above blouse might look good with a pair of plain jeans and a simple blazer and the bracelet supporting breast cancer research is always a good buy.

Today's outfit

I rarely show what I'm wearing, but I felt like sharing today's ensemble although it's not that special at all. Nevertheless, it is blue-white-silver and consists of the following: A knitted short-sleeved sweater, a striped, very comfortable skirt, a navy top, a tin necklace, my silver rings (including my engagement ring), my axCent watch, thin silver bracelet, and a hair grip in the shape of a feather.

Topping it off

I have to admit that I love dresses in the summer, but my favourite everyday garment is nevertheless a pair of jeans and a sweater. Here are a few suggestions that can be found at the current summer sale: a spotted short sleeved jumper from Red Herring, and two knitted tops from LaRedoute Creation, a white one and a black one at very affordable prices.

Summer dresscode?

How about some white and beige accentuated by red nuances? The sun has been shining from a clear blue sky today and it has been lovely, even if I haven't had that many possibilities to enjoy the weather outside, but I've nevertheless gotten in the mood for summer clothes.

I felt a summer spread might be in order: How about the Bronze Filigree Arm sunglasses, which can be found at Debenhams, the light pink cashmere scarf at H&M, the Madame à Paris bag at La Redoute, the Gabriella hat at GinaTricot, or the flowery beach tunic, that was found at H&M? In addition, the bikini and the shoes, both of which can be found at Zara, the white pair of trousers at H&M, and, finally, the coral red Redoute Création dress (from La Redoute) might be of interest.

Summery

I saw some beautiful dresses at Zara and I couldn't help creating a mix of summery Zara and H&M clothes. The long, white dress, the silk lace one, the sequined tunic, and the calf leather shopping bag are all from Zara. The patterned dress, the kimono, and the blazer are all from H&M's Conscious line. The heels (that do not seem to be available anymore) were found at ASOS. A green Vitriini box from Iittala snuck in, as did a moss green bracelet from Etsy.

This Saturday's spread.

Mixing and matching

After buying the pink pair of jeans I showed here, I had to think for a bit about what to wear with them. Matching a strong colour like that is not necessarily easy, but I decided to go for black, white and beige. Thinking about how to make the combinations work in job situations, I had to think about materials as well and, keeping that in mind, I think I'd move away from plain tops or sweaters, which I might wear on an everyday basis.

Planning to wear them with either a black or beige blazer, I found a black knitted sweater with a beige trim, a beige knitted sweater with tiny black details, a pink and blue patterned scarf, and, just for fun, a marbled hoop watch at Debenhams. The boots from Sixtyseven I already own (and love), but, for anyone interested, they can be found at Brandos. Somehow, I feel these are needed to "rough things up" slightly, since pink sometimes can become too "pretty," but the combinations would of course work well with a pair of heels as well.

Colour

Fashion has introduced a lot of bright colours for this season, which reminds me a lot of the 1980s. I've never been a huge fan of pink (I probably haven't worn it since the 1980s), but this season I just might add a drop or two to my palette.

The trousers in the above spread both come from H&M as does the patterned, sleeveless shirt. The Replay shoes can be found at Javari, the scarf at Trilogy stores, the pink shirt at Ellos, the Yves Saint Laurent buffalo leather bag at All Handbag Fashion, and the Eternity multi bracelet in rosegold/steel can be found at Edblad & Co.

Blue and beige

Here we go again! I seem drawn to these colours as spring is approaching every year, although I seem to be a bit early this year. Perhaps that's because the "real winter" was, weather-wise, already in December and the view for the last few weeks have been green or beige fields. Previous evidence of my blue/beige spring mania can be found here (2012) and here (2011).

This year's examples are mainly provided by H&M's January sale: the blue patterned jeans for only 50 SEK, the beige jumper (which I can't find a link to anymore) for 150 SEK, the blue knitted sweater at a 100 SEK, and the pair of beige corduroy pants, also 100 SEK. In addition, I've added the shoes, model: Grace, from Vagabond which I found on sale at Brandos.

Missoni

There has been a lot of media coverage for the Lindex/Missoni collection. Like many other bloggers, I was curious as the collection was released, but realised that most of it was gone before I had even had a time to take a look at it. A friend of mine managed to get hold of a dress and I did indeed buy a pink bracelet to support cancer research myself (50% of the sales price) but on the whole it has been rather difficult to get hold of the more desirable item, such as the dresses and the skirts.

Italian Missoni was founded in the 1950s by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni and is today run by their daughters, Angela and Margherita. Missoni has been famous for the colourful zig-zag-patterned knits.

Noticing some fluctuations in the availability of certain items in the collection as I browsed the Lindex website, I realised that there might be a possibility still to buy a dress I had set my eyes on and one day it was indeed available. Click. Let's just hope it fits me.

Ceremonials

By successfully defending a PhD thesis a new "doctor" is born, but the formal act of conferring a doctor's degree takes place at the annual academic ceremony and this is what happened for me yesterday. There were eight of us this year, from a wide range of disciplines, who stood there in our green formal gowns, with our hats on and with the diplomas and the doctor's rings in our hands. This year the number of people attending the ceremony was slightly smaller than it usually is, but I think it was really nice to have the possibility to talk to almost everyone for once.

After the ceremony, I was one of the panel members, together with two computer science professors and one professor of architecture, attempting to discuss the links between art and science and we meandered between topics such as creativity, inspiration, aha moments, talent, craftmanship, and teaching. It was very interesting to hear their ideas on the topic and see where the discussion took us all. Most of us had at least some experience with art and we are, of course, members of academia, but to find the bridges between science and art and to agree on its definitions was slightly challenging. In any case, it opened up for further discussions and we had an enjoyable time mingling at dinner afterwards.

My black dress, similar to the one above, was made by me, and I bought the shoes a few years ago. The hat and the ring above were borrowed (although I have a doctor's ring of my own, which I will blog about soon), but the diploma is now my own. With this I wore my Torun Bülow-Hübe collier and quartz pendant and earrings.

Summery

I really like dresses that can be used as tunics as well as, well, dresses. It makes them far more versatile in my mind, and in this way they can be dressed up for parties as well as dressed down for everyday use. At the moment I do like them with a pair of capri pants and semi-high heels. The light colours tend to catch my eyes and are perfect as early summer exclamation marks.

From the left: a cute turquoise dress from Odd Molly, a silk crèpe flowered print from Soft Grey, a simple white dress from H&M, and, last but not least, a light turquoise silk and cotton mix from Active Wear.

Mixing and matching

It's not really autumn yet (thank God!), but I'm slowly beginning to move towards the brown colour scale. My trusted brown blazer, bought at Esprit in New York in 2007, has decided to give up and I had to look for a replacement. When I saw this one at Debenhams at a very reasonable price I decided it was the one and ordered it. Let's hope it fits...

My collage above is otherwise a mix of old and new. The pair of blue jeans and the white blouse I already have, but they can both be found at H&M. The scarf is rather similar to one bought in Italy given to me by my in-laws. The boots come from Vagabond, the bracelet from Snö of Sweden can be found at Jemp Guld, the earrings and the necklace (also from Snö) were found at Sima Fashion. These resemble the amber jewellery I already own and really like. Last, but not least, there are a pair of glasses, Bench from Pentax found at SpecSavers. I really do need a new pair of glasses, since the ones I wear now, from Peak Performance, are almost six years old. My eyesight has clearly changed and the glasses themselves are also visibly worn. I guess I'll have to put it on my to-do-list...

Outfitting

Next Friday is my big day, and we are all preparing for it. My own clothes are ready — various garments in purple, mauve and grey — and can be seen here. In the evening I will wear a mauve dress together with the suede coat and a cream white pashmina shawl. Our oldest son will wear the black suit we bought for him last summer and a grey shirt. T. has bought a black suit and a new purple/mauve tie today, and our youngest's outfit has been completed with a tie and a jacket and the result can be seen above. He's thrilled to get his first suit and tie and he looks so handsome!

A turquoise and white striped shirt from La Redoute, a black suit from H&M, a tie from Dressman, and simple textile shoes (which he can use in any context) from Skopunkten.

Preparing

The ongoing sale at La Redoute gave us an opportunity to update our summer wardrobes. Particularily the boys needed some new shirts, since I'd like them to look good as well on the "big day" at the end of May, and this seems to be a perfect opportunity. Now I only have to find a pair of black trousers for my youngest son...

Dresses and shirts from La Redoute, pashmina shawl from My Pashmina, and the shoes were found at Javari.
